According to Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, Egyptian authorities are going to issue several tenders for mining precious and basic metals between July and September 2023. The Minister explicitly mentioned phosphate, sulphur, and potash, but also other precious metals. Project opportunities will be offered in the Alexandria, Assiut and Suez regions.
According to the Minister, the government has launched a regional geophysical survey programme including the use of satellite imagery to identify areas with rare and radioactive metals resources.
The information were announced by the Minister during the Egypt Mining Forum which took place in Cairo in mid-July. The extensive participation of stakeholders from all over the MENA region resembles the growing importance, but also the extensive project opportunities of the Egyptian mining sector.
