This business guide, which is published as the sixth volume of our series of information brochures for companies following the guides on the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sultanate of Oman and Qatar, is published with the kind support of the Bahrain Economic Development Board.

The focus on the island kingdom in the Arabian Gulf reflects the economic dynamism, which is especially characteristic of the Gulf region. The economic policy of Bahrain is an excellent example of the diversification strategy of the Arab countries in order to prepare for the time after the end of the oil and gas supply. Currently, the share of oil and gas exports of the Gross Domestic Product of the Kingdom amounts to only 23,1 percent, whereas the banking and financial services sector is responsible for almost a quarter of the GDP. Bahrain has specialized early in this area of industry. Other areas, which are becoming increasingly important, are health care, tourism as well as the infrastructure and logistics of the country.
